Andrew McMorrine – Works on Paper: 25 April-27 May 2017

Our new exhibition, ‘Works on Paper’, is by Skye-based artist, Andrew McMorrine. Since leaving teaching in 2004 (latterly as head of the art department in Portree High School), Andrew has been pursuing his own work from his studio in Dunvegan. Andrew is one of our Studio members and over the last year or so has created eight new works here, primarily using the technique of polymer etching. The exhibition also features the work ‘The Poor Girl’s Lamentation’ which featured in An Leabhar Mòr (The Great Book of Gaelic, 2008).
Read Andrew’s biography on our gallery, where you can also view and buy his unframed prints from this exhibition. All except one of his framed works are also on sale from the Studio.

Andrew is easily confused with his identical twin brother Alastair, also an artist and Studio member. They do favour different hat styles, which can help. Andrew had the pleasure of being art teacher to our own John McNaught in Balivanich Primary, Benbecula, and was also one of John’s art teachers at Portree High, where he taught him etching. We aren’t sure at what age Andrew’s hair went white, but …

Andrew’s ‘Works on Paper’ are on show until 27 May 2017 – we do hope you will be able to stop by the Studio to view them.
