imPRESSions
An exhibition of printmaking, from process to print.
From the carved groove of a woodblock to the sweep of a squeegee across silk, every print begins long before the paper is pulled from the press.
IMPRESSIONS is an exhibition that opens the doors of Highland Print Studio’s workshop and invites visitors behind the scenes to see how prints are made — from etched copper plates and carved wood blocks to stretched silkscreens, stone lithography and much more. See the tools, the plates, and the stages that go into making the final print, showing the transformation from process to print.
Highland Print Studio has long been a space where artists and the community meet to learn, create, and explore. This show reflects that ethos — demystifying the techniques we teach and use every day, and celebrating the rich diversity of approaches that live within our walls.
In our nearly 40 year history, we have been a space for people to learn and explore printmaking and we have helped to introduce thousands of people to the various printmaking processes and techniques, each starting their own journey into their work. Our unique open access studio is used daily, with visiting artists, studio members, keen public and class participants all working away on developing their prints, printing photographic work, as well as those attending workshops, exhibitions and events or buying prints from our shop. Our important outreach work with individuals and community groups sees us address the many barriers to entry within the arts and actively engage people in creativity and printmaking.
Whether you’re an artist, a beginner, or simply curious about how prints are made, this exhibition is an invitation to look closer. To see not only the finished print but the journey that brought it to life. This is an exhibition about process, possibility, and the joy of making. We hope it inspires you to explore printmaking for yourself — to make your own mark, and see where it takes you.
