Relief Printing

In contrast to Intaglio printmaking, where ink is applied to the recesses of the printing plate, Relief printing involves inking the raised surfaces and leaving the recesses ink free. It can be a bit easier to understand if you think of a rubber stamp or a potato stamp, where the protruding areas are the only areas that come in contact with ink.
