Fair Work

Fair Work First

Highland Print Studio is committed to the Fair Work principles of employment as defined by the Scottish Government. These principles are: Effective Voice, Fulfilment, Opportunity, Security and Respect.

Effective Voice – having in place channels of communication that support open dialogue with all staff and volunteers. Regular staff meetings to ensure that all perspectives can be heard and considered in decision-making. An open door environment, where ideas, issues and concerns can be raised at any time.

Fulfilment – every role is valued for its essential role in helping the organisation to achieve its objectives. Fulfilment means different things to different people and every worker has the opportunity to express what it means to them and how the organisation can support them to have fulfilling careers.

Opportunity – fair work includes equality of opportunity to employment, which is supported by our Equalities Policy. Employees have the opportunity for continuing professional development and are supported with training opportunities.

Security – employees are paid the Real Living Wage and above. Wages are reviewed annually to ensure fair rates of pay are maintained. The organisation does not use zero hours contracts and opposes ‘fire and rehire’ practices. Employee benefits include company sick pay, carers days and family friendly policies, all of which are laid out in the staff handbook. The organisation pays above the statutory minimum requirements for employer pension contributions.

Respect – being treated with respect and dignity is a basic human right and this extends to working in an environment free from bullying, harassment, victimisation and discrimination. All employees and trustees must adhere to a code of conduct that is included in the organisation’s comprehensive staff handbook and is supported by a robust disciplinary and grievance process. Guidance for studio users also includes a code of conduct for studio users for both staff and other studio users.

Real Living Wage

Highland Print Studio has been a Real Living Wage employer and has paid every employee regardless of age, the Real Living Wage and above, since it was introduced voluntarily in 2011.
