Highland Print Studio Re-Launches WISE GUYS Project for Men Aged 60+ with No Previous Arts Experience.

We recently relaunched our Wise Guys project, introducing men over the age of 60 to the arts and printmaking through a series of weekly workshops at our studio. Our first cohort of Wise Guys joined us 12 years ago and we have been delighted to be able to offer this project for participation since then, with numerous grants and funding from different organisations over this years. This years Wise Guys project was kindly supported with funding from Highland Council.

Our Wise Guys project began off the back of a series of research from Age Uk and other organisations, which showed that men over a certain age were not interacting or engaging in the arts or creativity as much as older women, which can result in loneliness and isolation.

We are over half way into this years program and the participants have been developing such a great collection of work through different tests and mark making in both Relief Printing and Screenprinting.

This years cohort have been busy each week trying out new approaches and learning every aspect and step of each technique and applying themselves and their ideas in practice and test prints.

We recently had a visit from the Press and Journal who wanted to tour our space, hear about our projects and initiatives and meet the Wise Guys to see what they were doing.
