Beginners Etching

This weekend class will be a great introduction to etching. Etching is an intaglio method of printmaking where an acid resistant ground is applied to the surface of a plate which is then drawn into revealing the metal plate underneath. The plate is then submerged in acid which bites the open areas into the plate. These etched areas sit below the surface of the metal plate and hold the ink ready for printing using an etching press. Working directly onto a steel plate you will develop images through various hand applied techniques, learn how to ink and print the plate using our Rochat printing press and finish the weekend with a small edition of prints.
This class is suitable for beginners/refreshers.

Linocut Taster Session – Print your own Christmas Cards

Print your own Christmas Cards this year with a linocut design that you have created here at the studio on this taster session

Aquatint Etching

This course is a deep dive into the possibilities of aquatint, covering spit bite, sugar lift and soap ground. Spit bite is a very immediate technique. Painting directly onto the plate with acid, it can make soft tonal marks with soft edges. Soap ground and sugar lift enable the artist to work in a painterly and gestural manor with aquatint. This workshop is perfect for those wishing to create a greater variety of mark making techniques to use when building images on etching plates.

Valentine’s Text and Print Taster Day

This course will explore the combination of text and image within Print processes.

We will work with drawing and collage and take our text and images into Monotype and Cyanotype print processes.

Collagraph

Collagraph is a deceptively simple printmaking process that allows incredibly sophisticated images to be created.

Screenprinting process where the emulsion ink is washed off where it hasn't been dried due to the illustration blocking light

Beginners Screenprinting

On this two-day workshop you will learn the basics of preparing hand drawn separations using a range of mark making technique and paper stencils to create a small edition of original prints.

Beginners Linocut

On this weekend class you will learn all the basics of creating your own original reduction linocut print.

Mokulito (March)

In this 2 day course, participants will prepare their own plywood plates with imagery, using lithographic drawing and painting materials and can add reductive marks with woodcutting tools. At the end of the day you will gum the plates and leave them to rest overnight. On Day 2, you will ink and prepare paper before commencing a day of printing the Mokulito plates.

2-Plate Etching

Add variety to your etchings on this multi-plate etching class.
